Logon and password |
Some systems have a login procedure. To log on to the system, press [Ctrl][Alt][Delete]. For the User ID, type your first initial and your last name without spaces. Be sure to use all lowercase letters. Your password has also been set to your first initial and your last name. You may change this if you like. |
Software Installed on your computer |
Standard desktop applications (e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, Web browser, etc.) have been installed on your computer. If you need additional software please check with the help desk or your department’s administrator to see if the title is available. If the title is not software that is site-licensed by SDSU, your department is responsible for purchasing the needed software. |
Printers |
A default printer will be installed for your computer. This printer is likely in your department office. If you need help installing additional printers, please contact the Help Desk. |

What if I can't log on? |

What if I can't get into the e-mail system? |

What if I forget my new password and get locked out of my e-mail? |
Call TNS (Telephone and Network Services) at ext. 4-1093. They will reset your password, and you will have to create a new one the next time you log on. They usually require that you make the request in person with your faculty/staff ID at their office at Love Library, LL-200. |
What do I need to do to use the Smart Classrooms? |
For scheduling see Lisa McCully 4-1427. You will need to be issued a key and a swipe card; for one-time use these keys can be checked out from Neal Fogelhut 4-7400. TNS offers classes on how to use the Smart Classrooms. Their schedule is at http://www-rohan.sdsu.edu/dept/its/resources/smartclassroom/index.html. |
Should I ever lock my workstation? |
Yes. You should lock your workstation any time you leave your desk for more than five minutes. |
What if I can't print? |

Where can I check out equipment I don’t have? |
Faculty and staff can check out a wide variety of equipment through Instructional Technology Services (ITS). Equipment reservations through ITS (4-5261, located in Adams Humanities Room AH-1104) require a current SDSU ID. You can reserve computers and various types of audio and video equipment. Some College of Education departments also maintain inventories of equipment for faculty use. Check with your department coordinator on arrangements for using this equipment.

Can I contact the Help Desk on the Web or by e-mail? |
The Online Help Desk Web site is: http://coehelp.sdsu.edu The Help Desk e-mail address is: coehelp@sdsu.eduThe fastest way to get service is by filling our the form on the web. The technicians and coaches work out of a database where all calls are entered. If you phone or email, that call has to be input before anyone can work on your computer. The online form enters your request directly into the database. |
What technology training opportunities exist? |
Coaches can help you fill small holes in your skills or accomplish a specific task. The University offers hands on computer classes through BATS. A schedule of their offerings is available at http://www-rohan.sdsu.edu/~bats/. |
